Adopt a Hound

Why Adopt?

  • You’re saving a life. By adopting, you’ll give a dog a safe and loving home.

  • You help prevent overpopulation. By choosing to adopt rather than go to a breeder, you’ll be caring for a dog who needs support instead of bringing a puppy into the world.

  • Adoption is usually more cost effective than buying a puppy. The GAL adoption fee covers spaying/neutering, vaccinations and microchipping, which can all cost a significant amount, after you’ve already paid for a puppy.

Are you considering providing one of our hounds with a forever home?

Adopting a dog is much like adopting a child – you invite them into your life, your home, and make them part of your family You make allowances for them – for many of our hounds, the first time they ever saw the inside of a house or other dog breeds was when they moved into one of our foster families homes - so if they get spooked by the hoover, get stuck at the top of the stairs or have an accident in the house (we’re talking about dogs now, not children), you help them work through it and settle into their new life. There may be tough times, but there will be great times too – the rewards are amazing!

How does the adoption application process work?

There are a few steps in our rehoming process to help us match you to a dog that’s going to fit in with your family and your lifestyle. Throughout the process you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask as many questions as you want and discuss any concerns you may have about adopting, the dogs available, and greyhounds and lurchers.

GAL is run by dedicated volunteers who love sighthounds and are passionate about the work we do, so you will always find someone who can help and support you with your adoption.

1. Complete your adoption application form

We will ask you a series of questions to help match you with a suitable companion.

You can assess and submit our adoption application form below.

2. We’ll review your submitted application and get in touch with you

Our team will review your application, and a volunteer will call you to explain next steps and answer any questions you have.

3. Arranging a home visit

If everyone’s happy to move forward, we’ll arrange a home check.

The home check helps us match you to the right dog for your home and lifestyle. This is also another opportunity to ask questions and clear up any concerns you might have. Our volunteer will also ask you to agree to our terms and conditions.
